Ghost towns. You mean a town where ghosts live. No it's not where ghosts live. It is a historical town from a long time ago. Maybe you'll learn a little something about ghost towns.
What Is A Ghost Town?
Have you ever driven past a ghost town like Ashcroft in Aspen, Colorado? You might know what it looks like. It's old and people do not live there anymore. It is something that people left and abandoned. In some places the people that live there don’t care about the history, so they just knock the buildings down. There are not ghosts living in a ghost town. It's just a name.
Where Are Ghost Towns?
Most ghost towns are near old mining towns or an old mine that is abandoned. You may not know that they are there because people didn’t leave a lot of remains. You might be able to find a beer bottle and old log cabins, but that's about it. You most likely will find a ghost town in the western side of the U.S.A. that is because before anyone moved to the west, people discovered the land here. It was only the eastern side of the U.S. had people living there. Then people started moving west. That is how ghost towns started.

Why Didn’t People Stay?
Most people left a town because a mine ran out of gold or silver. People wanted more silver and gold so they left that town. People started to move away and slowly the population of that town dropped. Soon there was only one or two people left. Those people either died or moved too. Then no one was left to run the town. It was just a few buildings in the middle of nowhere. Maybe an animal lived in one of those buildings?
