When Was The Capitol Building Built?

The Capitol Building was made in the 1890’s. Can you believe it? And, it is still standing! It was opened and used in November 1894.The gold that surrounds the dome was first added in 1908. The people had to change the gold four times: 1949, 1980, 1991, 2014! Whoa! Another fact! It seems like the last one. Right now the Capitol Building has 65 ounces of gold covering it!”
Where Did The Materials Come From?
“Hello there, my name is Jeff and I am going to tell you about where did the materials come from. Every single material used to make the Capitol Building came from Colorado! Is that cool or what? Here are some of the materials that they used for the Capitol Building. The outside walls are granite (picture later on). The granite came from Gunnison, Colorado (see map).The Rose Onyx (rare marble) that the pillars and walls are made of (pictures later on) were found in Beulah. The Capitol Building used all of the Rose Onyx that was left! They also put White Yule Marble on the floors which were from Marble, Colorado. Here comes a fact! Many designs can be found in the marble. For example: they found an image of George Washington (president, see picture) and Molly Brown (picture later on). Heads up here comes a fact! Many windows were made of stained glass (pictures made of glass). The halls have portraits of every president of the United States! The gold used for the Capitol Building dome is from Cripple Creek (see map).
