Cotopaxi is a VERY small town. It had a population of 47 people in the 2010 census. It’s economy is a rafting the business that attracts thousand of people a year. The residents are mostly Catholic. I heard about Cotopaxi from a book that is mentioned later I think Cotopaxi needs to grow!
Cotopaxi is such a small town that have consolidated schools that pull from 5 small towns. The schools are Cotopaxi Junior-Senior High School, Cotopaxi Home-Partnership School, and Cotopaxi Elementary School.

Cotopaxi is 30 minutes from Pueblo and 4 hours from Aspen (if Independence Pass is open) and 2 hours 45 minutes from Denver. Its zip code is 81223. As I said before Cotopaxi is a small town and it is not that populated. It seems fairly warm.
What is Cotopaxi Known for
Cotopaxi is named after a volcano in Africa, but THIS Cotopaxi in Colorado is not as famous as the Volcano in Africa. In early 1882, 63-Jews of Russian descent came to the Cotopaxi Colorado. Because of the Homestead Act. They stayed for VERY SHORT time . Something happened and they moved In search of jobs and found work at Denver and Rio Grande Western Railroad. Nothing Here But Stones is a historical fiction novel about these Jews.The author, Nancy Oswald, currently lives in Cotopaxi, CO.
The 63 Russian Jews were very smart establishing Cotopaxi, Colorado. It is probably the only town in Colorado that has 47 people! I mean there aren’t many towns that have 47 people!
